Get Your Nails Holiday Ready With Sparkle

We all know that nicely manicured hands help us look polished and put together.  But for the holidays its always fun to take things to the next level.  An easy way to dress up your nails is with glitter nail polish.  It is very easy to do and the results are dazzling for this time of year!

There are a couple of options you can try!  Paint your nails whatever shade you would like (Red, Cranberry, and Gold are very festive for Christmas, and Black, Silver, or Plum are great for New Year’s) and instead of applying a clear top coat, apply a top coat with a clear base that has glitter mixed into it, Wet N Wild makes a top coat (#413 Silver Frost) that is perfect for this and it is only $1.99.

If you want more than just a little sparkle on your top coat, you can intensify the look of your polish.  Instead of applying a clear based top coat, apply your desired shade and then instead of a normal top coat, apply a glitter polish that is similar to shade you painted your nails with.  For example if you painted your nails a shade of red, Sinful Colors make a great red glitter shade, called #157 Red Diamond and if you painted your nails gold, they have a great gold glitter shade called #838 Euro Trash.  By applying this over your base shade (red, gold, or whatever you chose) you are increasing the vibrancy of that shade.  Sinful colors can be found at Walgreens of SinfulColors.com for around $2 a bottle.  These shades are not high end by any means,  but since they are acting as top coat and simply playing up the color of the shade underneath, they work out just great!

Now if you can’t find a shade of glitter polish that matches your base color, you can always very easily make your own!

First select a shade of nail polish.  For example if you are painting your nails cranberry and want a glittering polish to match, take an ordinary shade of nail polish that is cranberry or close to it.  Then go to your local craft to store and buy glitter to match.  I recommend going to a craft store, because they will have more shades to choose from.  You should also pick up a tiny funnel (small enough so the tip can fit inside the bottle of polish) while your there.   Now simply place the funnel in the polish and add in some glitter.  Add a little at time, stopping in between to close the polish and shake to diperse glitter. Stop when you have achieved the desired amount of glitter.

Feel free to do this all year long, after all you don’t want to sparkle only during the holidays!
